Mother successfully donates womb to her daughter in India's first womb transfer.

A 43-year-old mother has successfully donated her womb to her 21-year-old daughter, who was born without a uterus, with the hopes that her child can experience childbirth. The surgery was the first of its kind in India and was performed by a team of doctors at Pune's Galaxy Care Hospital in the city of Pune in south-west India.

Ther womb transfer took place yesterday, led by the hospital's medical director, Dr. Shailesh Puntambekar. It lasted for nine and a half hours in total and both mother and daughter are fine and in recovery. The 21-year-old will have to wait for one year to give her body enough time to heal and adjust to the new uterus before she considers trying to get pregnant via in-vitro fertilization (IVF). She is currently under observation and will be kept in Intensive Care Unit for some days

"The patient was born without a uterus and she wanted to have her own baby and was not ready for adoption or surrogacy. Since they knew about the uterus transplant, they approached us and accepted the surgery option," Dr Shailesh Puntambekar said. "Fortunately, her mother was found to be a medically suitable uterus donor for her."

He added: "The procedure is difficult because multiple large arteries are to be joined there, and veins that are small and short. It is technically very tough."

According to Dr. Mats Brännström, a professor of obstetrics and gynaecology at Sweden's University of Gothenburg, only six babies have ever been delivered from a uterus transplant - two from the same mother. It remains to be seen whether India's first transplant will result in a birth though Dr. Puntambekar said he felt "relaxed and confident" that it will happen for his patient.

The Funeral of Karabo Mokoena, the 22 year old South African young lady who was murdered and then burnt by her boyfriend, Sandile Mantsoe, is currently taking place in the Diepkloof hall in Soweto, South Africa.

Government officials, clergymen and others joined her father, Tsepho Mokoena, at the Funeral.
She will be laid to rest at Westpark Cemetery in Johannesburg. 

Karabo was found dead on April 29th. Her body was discovered burnt beyond recognition in a ditch in Lyndhurst.

Acceptance rate of Lesbians, Gays and Bisexuals in Nigeria is on the rise - NOIPolls

NOIPolls, the premier organization for country specific polling services in West Africa has released a Social Perception Survey on Lesbian, Gays and Bisexual Rights showing an increase in acceptance rate of Lesbian, Gays and Bisexuals in Nigeria.


Commissioned by The Initiative for Equal Rights (TIERs), a non-profit organization working to protect the rights of sexual minorities, the report showed a rise in family acceptance from 11 percent in 2015 to 13 percent in 2017. Findings also show that 39 percent of Nigerians now say that Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual persons should be allowed to have access to public services, a 9 per cent increase from 30 per cent of respondents in 2015.

    
One of the highlights of the report was the fact that 17 percent of respondents answered in affirmative when asked if they know someone who is Lesbian, Gay or Bisexual- a family member, friend, or someone within their locality.

The survey method involved a random nationwide sampling of 2,000 respondents who were interviewed over the telephone. Participants were selected from the six geo-political zones through a proportionate stratified random sample design.

Nigeria's secret Police, the Department of State Services on Thursday, again failed to produce the Chairman, Capital Oil and Gas, Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, before Justice Muhammed Idris of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos.

This is in flagrant disregard of the May 12, 2017, court order given to the DSS by Justice Idris, to produce Ubah in court today.

However, this came as no fewer than 500 supporters from across different ethnic groups stormed the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, today, to rally around and show support for the oil mogul.

This is even as anger and moral indignation has continued to swell further over the continued detention of the Nnewi-born Billionaire Businessman, by the DSS

Leading the pack of those who have condemned the DSS continued detention of Ubah are Pan-Igbo group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo; Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC); the National Association of South East Nigeria Students (NASENS), HURIWA, Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State and  affected workers of Capital Oil and Gas.

Speaking to journalists, a Staff of Capital Oil, Mr. Tony Ogundipe expressed his frustration at the impasse. "We, Capital Oil workers are disappointed with the nonchalant attutude of the Federal Government in the resolution of this matter that has left over 2,000 of us temporarily jobless and redundant. The failure of the FG to call the conspirators to order is a blatant slap on the face of our democracy and sheer insensitivity to the plight of Nigerians", he lamented.

Another staff of Capital Oil and Gas, Mr. Samuel Aywila called on the FG to intervene in a bid to avert the impending starvation of their families. "The injustice meted on Dr Ifeanyi Ubah is negatively affecting over 2,000 workers of Capital Oil. The FG should be mindful of the implications on our families who are gradually been forced to starve", he concluded.

With this latest failure to produce Ubah in court today, Justice Idris adjourned the matter for ruling on Thursday, May 25, 2017.

Associates of fired FBI director James Comey reveals he was unsettled by interactions with Trump and was disgusted after embrace from him at ceremony.

Friends and associates of fired FBI director, James Comey, the ousted director felt uncomfortable with President Donald Trump's attempts to establish a personal relationship with him and because of this, he tried to keep the president at arm's length for fear that interactions could jeopardize the investigations into Trump's ties to Russia and also the investigation into former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn's case.

According to Comey's associates who spoke to the New York Times, he had become suspicious of the president's efforts to influence him through various means. Only two days after Trump assumed office, he gave Comey a special shout out during a ceremony to honor law enforcement officials.

This reportedly made Comey uncomfortable and he tried to make himself less conspicuous in the room. At the same ceremony, when Comey went to greet Trump, he stretched out his hand but Trump went in for a hug, which Comey did not return. A friend od Comey's, Benjamin Wittes, revealed that he was disgusted by this move and saw it as an attempt calculated to compromise him. He reportedly spoke of "training" the president to follow protocol and submit inquiries about the active investigation through the Justice Department.

In a Lawfare blog post, Wittes wrote: "Comey was disgusted. He regarded the episode as a physical attempt to show closeness and warmth in a fashion calculated to compromise him before Democrats who already mistrusted him."

Wittes said he decided to go public with his conversations with Comey to discount Trump's accusations on Twitter that there were "leakers" among the intelligence community.

"We communicate regularly, but I am not among his close intimates or advisers. I know nothing about the Russia investigation that isn’t public. Comey has never talked to me about a live investigative matter—and I’ve never asked him to. Sometimes, as friends do, we have lunch, and when we do so, we talk about things of mutual interest," Wittes said.

In interviews with the New York Times, and an account published on Lawfare where he works as editor-in-chief, Wittes said Comey did not want to attend Trump's ceremony on January 22.

Wittes wrote: "There was an additional sensitivity here too, because many Democrats blamed Comey for Trump’s election, so he didn’t want any shows of closeness between the two that might reinforce a perception that he had put a thumb on the scale in Trump’s favor. But he also felt that he could not refuse a presidential invitation, particularly not one that went to a broad array of law enforcement leadership. So he went."

At some point during the ceremony, Trump announced in front of the entire room: "Oh and there's Jim. He's become more famous than me."

The moment, which was caught on video, showed Comey walk across the room, he resigned himself to shaking hands with Trump, only to be pulled into a one-sided hug, Wittes said.

"Comey took the long walk across the room determined, he told me, that there was not going to be a hug. Bad enough that he was there; bad enough that there would be a handshake; he emphatically did not want any show of warmth," according to Wittes.

In a separate occasion, Trump allegedly called Comey and asked him when the feds were going to spread the news that he was not personally under investigation. Two people briefed on the call told this to the Times. In another instance, five days after the ceremony held on January 22nd, the President asked Comey to take a pledge of loyalty, and later suggested he close a federal investigation into disgraced National Security Advisor Mike Flynn by saying: "I hope you can let this go."

Comey kept a paper trail documenting all that was going on and his communication with the president. He told his associates that he was summoned to a private dinner at the White House for a one-on-one dinner with Trump, during which Trump asked him twice to pledge loyalty to him as the new Commander in Chief. Sources claim Comey refused to do so but said he told the President he would always be honest with him. He was fired weeks after in a letter in which Trump told him that he could no longer effectively lead the Bureau.

Jason Chaffetz, chairman of the House oversight committee, requested on Tuesday to see all documentation that James Comey kept of his communications with President Trump. However, on Thursday, Chaffetz said he will resign from Congress next month, a move that calls into question the future of the House Oversight Committee's investigation of President Donald Trump and his campaign's ties with Russia. Chaffetz made his resignation known in a letter, saying that he was leaving to spend time with his family, return to private sector and possibly run for Utah governor.

His letter, however, did not mention the investigation he is overseeing into Comey's dismissal as well as the Trump campaign's role in Russia's alleged efforts to meddle in the 2016 presidential election.

A Thai student was left with horrific scars after trying to get rid of the tattoo on her chest using the non-laser technique. Pasuda Reaw decided to remove the rose tattoo because she wanted to look more professional at work but the process went horribly wrong. See more photos after the cut...

The 21-year-old used a laser-free technique which can be applied with a small tattoo gun. The treatment is believed to raise ink pigments to the surface of the skin and create a scab that can be peeled off. However, two months later, Pasuda began to suffer a tortuous pain and was left with a scar across her chest. 

She revealed that after returning home from the clinic on February 4 she could not sleep because of a stinging sensation. She cried for most of that night, and 10 days later the area started to fill with puss and the skin was peeling. On March 2 she pulled off the tattoo, leaving wounds on the skin. By May 7, there was still a large pink raised scar.

 Pasuda, an art student from Udon Thani, northern Thailand, decided to share the photos of her scar to serve as a warning to others thinking of doing the same.  Speaking of the experience, she said:

"At first, Rejuvi seemed like a good way to remove the tattoo. I did not want to use lasers. I began the treatment and immediately it was itchy and hurting a lot. The skin has taken a long time to come off. It was like torture and I could not sleep. What is left is worse than before. I do not recommend this treatment because it hurts so bad and takes a long time. Laser is a lot of money but I wish I had done that. At times the pain of the itching and the scar were unbearable. I shared pictures as a warning to others to be so careful about what they do."

Pasuda's tattoo has now been removed but she still has a large pink scar tissue on her chest.

Husband claims his wife was drugged and raped after she was filmed having sex with fellow contestant in a reality show

A husband in denial has refused to believe that his wife will intentionally cheat on him and is accusing TV bosses of covering up a rape. Andrej Laharnar is claiming that his wife was drugged and raped after she was filmed getting cozy under the covers with a fellow housemate.

Andrej's partner, Mirela Lapanovic, is a contestant in a Serbian reality show called Couples, which is similar to Big Brother.

In one of the episodes filmed in Serbian capital, Belgrade, viewers saw her in explicit scenes with Milutin Radosavljevic Milija, another contestant. Her husband, upon seeing the footage, was left horrified and says the production team used drugs to manipulate his partner into a sexual scene to boost viewer figures and are trying to cover up the rape. He also believes his wife's male partner in the sex scene was drugged and that drug use is rife among people involved in the TV show.

"If only they showed her the footage, she would be shocked and she would realise she was abused," Andrej said.

"The production is not allowing the contestants or the audience to talk about the terrible incident. They are trying to cover up the rape but the truth will come out."

Last year, the Couples TV show made headlines when a husband was shown on TV appearing to strangle his wife. The production team behind Couples made no comment on the incident till date.

Thailand threatens Facebook with charges after video of their king walking around in a crop top surfaces

Thailand is threatening to sue Facebook after a video was shared on the platform showing the King of Thailand walking about in a yellow crop top.

In the footage which surfaced last week, King Maha Vajiralongkorn was seen with a woman dressed in a similar crop top. The king's midriff, chest and arms were exposed to reveal tattoos.
After the video made it to Facebook, the Thai government requested that it should be taken down and Facebook geo-blocked the footage, so it could not be seen by users in Thailand but Thai authorities claim that the video is still available on some pages accessible to users in Thailand. Thai officials have now given Facebook a deadline of 10 a.m. on Tuesday to remove pages containing the video of the King as well as pages containing the critical posts, or it will press charges.

Access to 178 pages containing the video has been restricted but the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) claims that there are still 131 pages available.

"If even a single illicit page remains, we will immediately discuss what legal steps to take against Facebook Thailand,” Takorn Tantasith, secretary-general of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission said.

Under lese-majeste law, anyone who openly criticises the monarchy can face up to 15 years in prison. The number of prosecutions has been on the increase ever since 2014 when the military seized control of the country. Charges could be levied against Facebook, however, if Facebook Thailand is not a full branch of Facebook Inc, it would be impossible to sue because it does not control illegal content, legal experts say.

A Mexican boxer, Julio César Chávez Jr., was allegedly robbed of his $40,000 watch while he 'celebrated' losing a match against Canelo Alvarez in Las Vegas. After the video surfaced, Julio's wife, Frida claimed that her husband was the object of 'a trap' and had his $40,000 watch, a cheque for $3million, and his phone stolen. She said that they had met the women in the video at the lobby bar that evening. She had a beer but left her husband to go and be with their daughter, Julia, who had been left with a friend. She claimed Julio stayed out with a man from London until about 5 or 6 in the morning and they went to a hotel room and took some women with them.

The cheque was later found in their hotel suite but the other items are yet to be found. The theft is reportedly being investigated and the Julio is taking legal action.
