Former Manchester City and Real Madrid star Robinho

Brazilian footballer, Robinho, has reportedly been sentenced to nine years in prison after being found guilty of sexual assault.
Reports in Italy claim that the former Manchester City and Real Madrid star, along with five others, was implicated in an attack on an Albanian girl in a Milan nightclub in January 2013.
The incident, which the player has repeatedly denied his involvement in, occurred when the 33-year-old was at AC Milan following his departure from the Etihad in 2010, Sportsmail reported.
Robinho's agent and lawyer, Marisa Alija Ramos, told Sportsmail: 'With regards to the allegations surrounding Robinho, the alleged incident took place several years ago.
'I clarify that my client has already defended himself against the charges and maintains he played no part in the incident.
'All legal steps are already being taken in response to this decision.'
According to Marisa, the skillful striker who currently plays for Atlético Mineiro in Brazil, pleaded not guilty and never appeared at any of the court hearings in northern Italy.
He has a right to two appeals and Italy would only launch extradition proceedings once this legal process is exhausted, a legal source said.
The Milan court ordered the victim to receive €60,000 (£53,000) as compensation for her suffering.
Robinho who is known for his ball control, attacking instinct and dribbling, played for  Santos, Real Madrid, Manchester City, AC Milan and Guangzhou Evergrande.

South African court of Appeal increases Oscar Pistorius's jail sentence to 13 years and five months, hell!

South African court of Appeal increases Oscar Pistorius

A South African court has increased Olympic athlete, Oscar Pistorius's jail sentence for killing his girlfriend to 13 years and five months.

Prosecutors had argued that the six-year term for murdering Reeva Steenkamp was too short. The Supreme Court of Appeal ruled his sentence be increased to 15 years, less time already served.

Pistorius was originally convicted of culpable homicide in 2014‚ but the SCA upgraded his conviction to murder in 2015. In July last year the Pretoria High Court sentenced him to six years’ imprisonment for the murder of Reeva Steenkamp.

The appeal court said his testimony was “vacillating and untruthful”. Prosecutor Andrea Johnston had argued that Pistorius did not show remorse and had not told the Pretoria High Court why he had shot Steenkamp. “He should have taken the court into his confidence and said‚ ‘This is why I did it’. With nothing more‚ there is no gut-wrenching remorse.”

Johnston told the court that trial judge Thokozile Masipa elevated Pistorius’s regret and that his regret does not absolve him from the crime he committed. Advocate Barry Roux‚ counsel for Pistorius‚ argued that his client had showed more than remorse.

If Nigeria cannot be restructured, let it disintegrate – Fani-Kayode.

former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode has said that if Nigeria cannot be restructured, let it disintegrate into smaller independent entities.
Fani-Kayode said this in reaction to the National Assembly’s rejection of the proposal to devolve more constitutional powers from the centre to the states which would have kicked-off the process of restructuring Nigeria in earnest.
He urged Nigerians to understand that restructuring the country can never be achieved through the 1999 constitution or the current National Assembly.
According to him, the system was rigged and designed to protect and preserve itself, adding that and the core north effectively had a power of veto in the National Assembly which it will always exercise in order to block any form of restructuring.
Fani-Kayode wrote on his Facebook page: “For those commentators in this forum who have never participated in or understand Nigerian politics but who tend to speak and act as if they are the only ones that are sincere about restructuring I have the following to say.
“I hope you have learnt a lesson or two from the fact that during the constitutional review exercise that took place in the last few days the Senate has refused to devolve power from the centre and initiate the process for genuine restructuring in our country.
“These are the hard facts, hidden obstacles and bitter realities about the struggle that some of us that are in the field have been facing and complaining about for the last 25 years!
“From henceforth let it be clearly understood by all, including those that desire restructuring but who have never participated in Nigerian politics, that we can never achieve it through the existing constitutional structure or the National Assembly.
“This is because the system is rigged and designed to protect and preserve itself and because the core north effectively has a power of veto in the National Assembly which it will always exercise in order to block any form of restructuring. It is this point that people like Nnamdi Kanu and other ethnic nationalist leaders came to appreciate long ago and it explains their ‘hardline’ posture on these issues.
“The bottom line is as follows: restructuring will not be given to us freely or on a platter of gold.
“It must be taken and if necessary it must be taken by force.
“Finally mark this: if it does not eventually come then I say let us cease to be one nation.

Apple inc store sells gaming robots built by a Nigerian.

Apple Stores in the United States and United Kingdom have begun the sale of gaming robots, MekaMons, built by a Nigerian-British, Silas Adekunle.

Adekunle’s company, Reach Robotics struck the deal with Apple recently.

The product with a price tag of $299.95 went on sale from 16 November in the shops and online. The robots can  be operated with an iPhone and other smartphones.

Reach Robotics, an augmented reality gaming company creates robots for both fun and STEM education.

Adekunle, who was born in Nigeria moved to the UK when he was 11 years old.

He is an engineer who graduated with First Class Honours from the University of the West of England in Bristol, with a Bachelor of Science in robotics technology. He previously worked at GE Aviation and Infineon.

“We’ve created an entirely new video gaming platform,” said Adekunle in a press release, published by Black Enterprise.

“MekaMon straddles both the real and virtual worlds while taking the gaming experience beyond a player’s screen and turning their sitting room into a limitless robotic battle zone. MekaMon represents a quantum leap forward in the leveraging of augmented reality. Players can whip out their iPhone to battle their multi-functional, connected battlebots in the physical and virtual worlds at the same time.”

MekaMons are four-legged robots that players can control via a smartphone using a companion app for augemented reality gameplay.

Multiple players can have their MekaMons battle each another. Each robot weighs a little over two pounds with dimensions of 11.8 by 11.8 by 5.9 inches.

MekaMons can connect to each other via infrared signals and Bluetooth, allowing for co-op gaming.

The robots are powered by a rechargeable battery that provides up to an hour of gameplay. They are compatible with the iPhone, using the smartphone’s camera and infrared tracking capability for precise navigation.

Adekunle’s company, founded in 2013 is based at the Bristol Robotics Laboratory (BRL) Technology Incubator. His colleagues include  Chris Beck who had been working as a roboticist in the BRL.

The company, according to southwestbusiness.co.uk has experienced fast growth in the past few months and the firm is moving out of its offices at Future Space in Bristol.

The company, which has taken space for its 29 members of staff at Bristol Business Park, has secured $9.5m (£7.1m) of investment funding from organisations which, says Adekunle, could “see the potential for what we were developing”.

Adekunle said: “When I was a student at UWE Bristol I spent some time going into schools to help inspire young people and it struck me that there was a huge untapped market for a consumer robot with a difference.

“We used to go in and explain simple robotics to try to inspire the young roboticists and engineers of the future and this experience set me off thinking about designing gaming robots.”

Reach Robotics is anticipating fast future growth and is looking to target the UK and US market in the lead up to Christmas.

Adekunle added: “This is an exciting time for our company as now after years of development work we are finally able to bring Mekamon to customers across the UK and US and with plans to go global.

“UWE Bristol has given us an amazing start and we are so grateful for their support.”

The United States Giver has condemned the suicide attack at a mosque in Mubi, Adamawa, which killed no fewer than 50 people and injured several others.

The US Department of State, in a statement by its Spokesperson, Ms Heather Nauert, described the blast as a terrorist attack.

The US extended its sincere condolences to the Nigerian people and the families of the victims killed in the attack.

“That the victims were targeted and killed in a place of worship demonstrates yet again the brutal nature of the terrorists whose sole aim is to threaten the peace and security of Nigerian citizens.

“Such ruthless attacks on innocent civilians only serve to strengthen our resolve towards meeting these threats in cooperation with our Nigerian and regional partners.”

The blast happened during early morning prayers at the Madina mosque in the Unguwar Shuwa area of Mubi.
